“My sculptures are constructed
from objects recycled from the everyday world. These works range
in size from one foot to a hundred and are made from mass quantities
of such things as discarded umbrellas, wire coat hangers, lost
gloves and plastic six-pack holders.
The concept speaks of our American
culture through the things we purchase, use up and discard. The structures
are both intuitive and systematic, constructed through symmetry and
repetition. Their organic geometry often references constructions found
in nature such as webs, nests and pods. Through the process of
transforming urban detritus into art, I explore questions of reality
and metaphor, revealing the tension between what an object once was
and what it has become.” -- JN
